J. Sika Akoto (PhD), the Acting Registrar for the University of Media, Arts and Communication, was appointed to the position on 1st December, 2022. She had earlier served as the Deputy Registrar in charge of Academic Affairs and then, Registrar for the Ghana Institute of Journalism.
Dr. Akoto holds a B.A. Degree in Theatre Arts with English from the University of Ghana, Legon. She holds two Masters Degrees; one in International Affairs from the University of Ghana and the other in Human Resource Development from the University of Cape Coast. Between 2008 and 2011, she studied at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom for a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Education.
A seasoned university administrator with strong leadership competencies, she has extensive management experience, having risen through the senior administrative ranks to the high office of Registrar. She has held senior management portfolios at the University of Mines and Technology, University of Cape Coast and the Ho Technical University, formerly Ho Polytechnic, in the following areas: Academic Affairs, Public Affairs, Human Resource/Training and Development, International Education, Teaching and Examination, School of Postgraduate Studies, Council Secretariat and Office of the Registrar.
Dr. Akoto has served on various committees and was a member of the team that drafted, submitted and won the bid to host the Association of Commonwealth Universities Executive Heads Conference in Ghana in the year 2015.
She has to her credit a number of academic papers published in renowned journals. Her research interests are in areas such as management, qualitative research methods (Narrative Inquiry), and gender. Other interest areas include, human resource management/development and international affairs.
She is a member of a number of professional bodies which include Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), the Association of Commonwealth Universities Human Resource Network and she is an Alumna of the International Visitor Leadership Programme (IVLP).
