RECTOR OF GIJ CHAIRS VICE CHANCELLORS GHANA (VCG)

Professor Kwamena Kwansah-Aidoo, Rector of the Ghana Institute of Journalism, has been appointed as Chairman for Vice Chancellors Ghana. He takes over the role from Professor Abednego Okoe Amartey, Vice Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), on 1st August 2022, and will steer the affairs of the organisation for one year.  

Vice Chancellors Ghana (VCG) is a forum for the executive heads of traditional public universities in Ghana (excluding technical universities). It began in 1965 as an informal consultative meeting of vice chancellors of the three universities at the time – UG, UST and UCC.

VCG is an organisation whose objectives are to promote scholarship, research and innovation; maintain common standards for academic progression and conditions of service of staff members; and assert professional authority on higher educational matters in Ghana, among other things.

The Chairmanship of VCG rotates among sitting Vice Chancellors of member universities for a period of one year beginning from 1st August of each year and ending on 31st July of the ensuing year.

The Registrar of Ghana Institute of Journalism, Dr. J. Sika Akoto, by virtue of Prof. Kwansah-Aidoo’s appointment shall chair the the Committee of Registrars and Finance Officers (CRFO), FWSC/TEWU Committee on Promotions of Junior Staff and Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Committee.
