GIJ INTERNAL AUDITOR ELECTED PRESIDENT OF INTERNAL AUDITORS GHANA

Mrs. Harriet Akua Karikari, a Deputy Director and Head of the Internal Audit Unit of the Ghana Institute of Journalism has been elected as President of the Institute of Internal Auditors Ghana.

The Institute, formally inaugurated in 2005, is a professional association dedicated to the promotion and development of the practice of Internal auditing in Ghana. It is a full-fledged member institute of the Global Internal Audit family which actively pursues collaboration and partnership with sister national institutes in Africa and beyond

Mrs. Karikari is a Chartered Accountant and an Internal Auditor with over 23 years of practice in Internal Auditing. She is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors both Global and Local and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Cape Coast and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) Accounting from the University of Ghana Business School.

She worked in the Internal Audit Directorate of the University of Cape Coast from 1997 to 2007 when she joined the Ghana Institute of Journalism to set up its Internal Audit Unit, a unit she has headed to date.

She served as the Honorary Secretary for the Institute of Internal Auditors Ghana from July 2015 to July 2019 when she was elected as Vice President of the Institute from July 2019 for a two-year term.

Mrs. Karikari has also served on the Audit Reports Implementation Committees (ARIC) of the Ghana Aids Commission and Encyclopedia Africana. With the promulgation of the PFM Act, she was assigned to serve on the Audit Committee of the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA), where she served for two years. Currently, she is a member of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons’ Audit Committee representing the Internal Audit Agency. She is also the Chairperson of the Akuapim South Municipal Assembly Audit Committee representing the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (CAG).

Mrs. Karikari served on the immediate past Governing Council of the Ghana Institute of Journalism representing Convocation from September 2017 to May 2021.
