GIJ Alumni Executives Pay Courtesy Call On Management

Executives of the Ghana Institute of Journalism Alumni Association have paid a courtesy call on the Executive Management of the Institute.

Explaining the purpose of the visit, President of the Association, Mr. Gayheart Mensah, said it was to welcome the new Deputy Rector, Dr. Eric Opoku Mensah and new Registrar, Dr. Janetta Sika Akoto into office and to discuss pertinent issues relating to the Alumni Association.

The Rector, Prof. Kwamena Kwansah-Aidoo, commended the team on their effort to revitalize the Association and promised to add a schedule for Alumni activities on the Institute’s Academic calendar for next year.

He mentioned how a new scholarship scheme initiated by Management had supported some needy students to pay their fees and implored the full support of the alumni to help sustain the scholarship scheme and also the Endowment Fund launched during the Institute’s 60th Anniversary.

The Rector also updated the team on how GIJ has implemented the Government directives on COVID-19 protocols for tertiary institutions and mentioned the impressive strides made by the Institution in providing virtual learning Apps for students to complete the semester.

Prof. Kwansah-Aidoo reiterated GIJ’s preparedness to welcome all final year students back to campus to write their semester exams.

The Rector also stated that he is looking forward to seeing more engagements with the Alumni, now that the Institution has set up a permanent Alumni Office.

The Alumni Executives also discussed the launching of Alumni webinar series which will take place at the end of June 2020. The topic for the first webinar series is “Public Relations and Journalism in post COVID-19 era”. Details of the Webinar series will be communicated in due course.
