Prof. Kwamena Kwansah-Aidoo
Vice-Chancellor
Professor Kwamena Kwansah-Aidoo is the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Media, Arts and Communication. He assumed this office after having served as Rector of the Ghana Institute of Journalism from 2018 to November 2022. Prior to becoming Rector, he was a Professor of Marketing and Public Relations at the Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia. He began at Swinburne in 2007, as Head of School, Communication, Marketing and Tourism and later became an Associate Dean International (ADI) Representative, South East Asia, from 2010 to 2013.
Before Swinburne University, he had experience in establishing the Public Relations programme at Monash University in Gippsland, Australia, where he worked as a Senior Lecturer in the early 2000s.
Prof. Kwansah-Aidoo has a solid track record of teaching a wide variety of Media and Communication courses. He is currently one of the few Ghanaians who are full Professors of Communication. He has broad research interests in media and communication studies and has published variously in these areas.
He has edited and co-edited books on media, communication and crisis communication. Also, he has published over 50 refereed journal articles, and presented over 50 conference papers across the globe. He has served and continues to serve on the editorial boards of several international journals. He has served as an external examiner (Masters and PhD) for a number of Australian and overseas universities, Visiting Scholar at Texas Christian University and the University of Ghana, and was also a visiting Professor of Marketing Communication at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in a bid “to give back to Ghana”.
Prof. Kwansah-Aidoo calls himself an “African world citizen” having spent nearly half his life living, studying and working in a number of countries on four continents. An enthusiastic and proud Old Vandal, Prof. Kwansah-Aidoo is an alumnus of the University of Ghana, Legon. He is an old student of the Akosombo Experimental School, Akosombo International School, Suhum Sec. Tech., Cape Coast Workers College and Ghana National College.
He has a PhD from the Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia, an MPhil degree in Media and Communication Studies from the University of Bergen in Norway, a Post- Graduate Diploma in Communication Studies and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and History from the University of Ghana, Legon.
Prof. Kwansah-Aidoo loves to watch football and believes that football is “the best game that was ever invented”. He is an ardent fan of Accra Hearts of Oak and Liverpool FC. He is married with children and likes to be called by his nickname, “Aspa”.
