Desmond currently teaches Introduction to Journalism and In-depth Journalism at the undergraduate level and Broadcast News Writing at the diploma level at the Ghana Institute of Journalism. 

He has also taught Broadcast Journalism, and assisted in teaching Feature Writing at the undergraduate level. Desmond has also assisted at the Postgraduate level with Sociology of Journalism and Advance Reporting. He is also interested in areas of Mass Communication, Advertising, Marketing and Radio and TV News Presentation. He has a lot of interests in the communications. Desmond also doubles as an award-winning broadcaster with over twenty (20) years of radio experience – production and presentation. He has handled almost every show on radio, acknowledges the power of radio and has devoted his On-Air Appearances towards the promotion of peace, nation building and human development.

 He currently holds an Mphil in Communication Studies (Media Studies option) from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) and an MA in Journalism from the Ghana Institute of Journalism where he emerged the Best Graduate Student in Journalism. Desmond holds B.A in Communications Studies (Journalism option) with First Class Honours from the Ghana Institute of Journalism. With his thirst for scholarship and academic success, he aspires to take a doctoral degree in journalism in the nearest future. He has an interest in human development and capacity building. Desmond has a considerable research interest in media, communication, journalism, gender and media, framing, broadcasting and sports.

Desmond is currently a member of the Communication Educators’ Association of Ghana (CEAG). He has served a couple of committees at GIJ including Public Affairs Committee and GIJ 60th Anniversary Planning Committee; and on radio programme committees in a number of media houses he has worked.

His teaching practice started in 1996 and has taught at various levels. Desmond has worked with different media houses including the state broadcaster, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC). He has taken a couple of short courses with DW Akademie based in Germany. He was the Head of the Audio Team of the Youth Newsroom of the World Press Freedom Day celebration which was organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and was held in Accra in 2018. He has attended a number of conferences including International Aid of Transparency Initiative (IATI) TAG Meeting in Nepal and Communication Educators’ Association of Ghana (CEAG) Conference in Winneba. Desmond has assisted in the management of two (2) campus-based radio stations – Radio Lynk (Kumasi Polytechnic) and Radio GIJ (Ghana Institute of Journalism).

Desmond Lamptey is very passionate about teaching and sees the profession as his call to serve mankind. He is passionate about mentoring his students as well as having intellectual discourses with them.
