The Rector of the Institute, Prof. Kwamena Kwansah-Aidoo, on Monday 26th September 2022 received a delegation from the Haaga-Helia University of Applied Technology, Finland. The meeting focused on strengthening ties by exploring academic partnerships, particularly in the area of research and supervisionof thesis.
The Rector, in welcoming the delegation said that, he was confident that discussions would enhance the teaching and learning process in the Institute and equip students and faculty with research tools to help them compete globally.
Ms. Lais Oliveira Leite, a PhD Candidate and Educational Consultant for Eduix Ltd, a digital tool design company, briefly presented on their thesis supervision portal to management members and some faculty of the Institute. The portal, currently under pilot in the Institute, has four lecturers and twenty students enrolled on it. Ms. Oliveira underscored the importance of record keeping and tracking of progress in the supervision process and highlighted the abilities of their portal in achieving that.
Dr. Altti Lagstedt, Principal Lecturer at the Haaga Helia University and developer of the portal, in his remarks highlighted the gaps in the student supervision process that the portal has come to bridge and implored Management of GIJ to consider fully enrolling on the portal.
Prof. Kwansah-Aidoo on his part mentioned that he was impressed with the plagiarism check the portal provides and asked the delegation to submit a formal proposal to Vice Chancellors Ghana for consideration.
Dr. Etse Sikanku, Director, Directorate of Research, Innovation and Development, on behalf of the Rector, presented a gift from the Institute to the delegation.
Present at the meeting were Dr. Altti Lagstedt, Principal Lecturer, Haaga Helia University, Ms. Lais Oliveira, Educational Consultant, Eduix Ltd., Prof. Eric Opoku-Mensah, Deputy Rector and Dr. J. Sika Akoto, Registrar. Also present were Dr. Jonas Kojo Anson-Boateng, HoD, Social Studies, Dr. Etse Sikanku, Director, Directorate of Research, Innovation and Development, Dr. Caroline Aboagye Da-Costa, Research Officer, Mr. Daniel Machator, Assistant Registrar, Public Affairs and Mrs. Perpetua Opoku Agyeman, Assistant Registrar, Alumni and International Relations.
