I am delighted to welcome you to the Ghana Institute of Journalism, the premier university for media and communication training in Ghana.
GIJ is the first school of journalism in Ghana and became a pioneer in the sub-Saharan African Region when it was established in 1959. Beginning as a certificate-awarding institution, GIJ has grown into a university that awards not only diplomas and bachelor’s degrees, but also master’s degrees.
You’ll find that at GIJ our highly motivated lecturers provide industry-tailored and practical training to students who enroll in all fields of communication. You can choose from coursework in print and broadcast journalism, public relations, advertising, marketing, and other programmes.
Our quest is to ensure that the students we produce at the end of the 4-year degree or 2-year diploma programme gain a theoretical understanding and practical exposure that situate them perfectly in the ever-expanding opportunities in the media industry and wherever they choose to work.
Our M.A. programmes in Journalism, Public Relations, Media Management, and Development Communication are unique to GIJ and focus on the expressed needs of industry. We still continue with our efforts at building capacity and will soon offer Master of Philosophy and PhD programmes.
We will continue to grow our research power, attract increasing numbers of postgraduates, strengthen our international influence through global partnerships to enhance the quality of academic and extra-curricular student experience and expand our capacity and capability by investing in new facilities and technologies.
I invite you to come to GIJ. Become a part of this unique institution that guarantees you the best training for a bright future in today’s thriving media and exciting communication environment.
